About the League

The Matt Leinart Flag Football League, in conjunction with the NFL Flag Football program, is a flag football league for kids in grades K-8th, with the emphasis on community fun. The league is for both boys and girls of all skill levels and promotes a competitive, confidence-building, non-contact football experience. Founded in Newport Beach in 2010, the goal of the league is to provide a fun league for kids to be involved in, while also developing and furthering their football skills.

Games are run on Friday nights in the Fall, Winter and Spring at locations in Costa Mesa, Fullerton, Huntington Beach, Irvine, Newport Beach, San Juan Capistrano and Ladera Ranch.

Leagues are run throughout the year in Fall (Sept – Nov), Winter (Jan – Feb), Spring (March – May), and Summer (July). The leagues are for all skill levels, and can be found throughout the area. To find a league, select your location below.

About the Tournament

The Winter Bowl is a school based tournament, with teams comprised of players from individual schools. Teams are tryout based. The Winter Bowl is a part of the multi-sport Tournament of Champions. Schools earn points for their performance in each tournament, and the school with the most points at the end of the year is awarded the Champions Cup to display at their school the following year.

In 2019, the tournament combined to have over 90 teams and 900 athletes.

FORMAT: Single Day Tournament

 

DATE: January 2021 @ OC Great Park

AGE: 3rd – 8th Grade

TEAM FORMATION & PLAYING TIME: Coaches will be in charge of assembling teams, and determining playing time. It is recommended that rosters should be between 9-12 players (but there is no official cap), with every player required to play one full, uninterrupted quarter each game.

Each player will be required to provide either a report card, or school correspondence as proof of school enrollment.

EQUIPMENT: Players must purchase their own mouthpiece and wear it at all practices and games. Any player without a mouthpiece will not be allowed to participate. Jerseys and flags are provided by the tournament organizer.
